I remember back a while when I would install sp3 it would mess up the same way so I installed sp2 and I got the friendly yellow update emblem and the computer downloaded and installed sp3 on its own and it worked but since NOW they have it to where you dont get service with sp2. Now you get the friendly yellow update shield emblem when you install sp3 manually and then download a few more updates from update site then you get the yellow shield update emblem.
I have no idea what discs you used or may have used to do the clean install of Windows.
