Towns and counties that want to attract OHV recreationalist to enhance local economies. The general public; educated OHV enthusiasts are more conscientious and better stewards of the land and many OHV trail projects address and resolve environmental issues such as stream crossing and erosion problems.

Registration funds also enable local, state and federal land managers to better manage our natural resources. OHV funding allows federal land management agencies to devote a greater amount of their own trail resources to needed non-motorized trail maintenance. Technical assistance for grant preparation is provided by CPW Trails Program staff to potential applicants. The submission deadline for OHV grant applications is the first business day of December each year. This process allows CPW to flag potential environmental or wildlife issues prior to the review by the subcommittees. The Good Management and ranked grant applications are then passed to the State Recreational Trails Committee to evaluate and recommend funding strategies for the Parks and Wildlife Commission.
