A different sort of expression is achieved on the more conventional if that is the right word albums, where shorter songs enable the lyrics to be set to a greater variety of musical forms. If the longer, more abstract, works are like pathworkings, then these albums are more like plays encompassing peaks and troughs of emotive projection and a thematic sense of progression, both musically, through the use of the repetition and development of certain melodic phrases, and also lyrically.

The Hallucinatory Mountain of this album is also the Docetic Mountain. And, as matter is impure, He was not real, at least not in a vulgar, materialistic sense. His reality is to be conceived of as a purely spiritual substance which would not defile itself with a descent into matter.

His body was not a material being, but a phantasm. Using this belief as a starting point, we can, by extension, understand that all apparent reality, all matter, is illusory.

This killer sits above time and descends into human affairs by writing his way into myth, religion and history. His suffering, like all suffering, is illusory. This heresy will not die; it reappeared with the Cathars, Meister Eckhart and the Reformation. But there is a paradox here, because Tibet is a writer, and he paints his unique vision in the medium of words.

So how can words free us from the prison of language? He is not trying to convey a readymade message; a summation of his beliefs in didactic form. Instead he is trying to do what we mentioned earlier: paint his vision in words.

Kalas are subtle forms of energy that flow from the human organism and are said to be the ultimate source of time and colours. Kalas are also related to Maya, illusion. Again, we have the idea of the projection of a hallucinatory reality, manifest in or as time. On Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain , the first track, Invocation of Almost , begins at such a level of intensity that it is difficult to see where it can go from there.

From beginning to end, the record resounds with a deep, stonerish roar of a guitar sound that fits Tibet's apocalyptic ramblings perfectly.

Frankly, I haven't even tried to decipher what he's on about, although it still gives off that demented preacherman vibe he's been doing for years. The guests once again are a noteworthy bunch, and although their presence is more low key than on Black Ships Ate The Sky they still warrant a paragraph in their own right.

Bass duties are provided by none other than a certain Andrew Wilkes-Krier, known to the general public as frat-rocker and party animal Andrew W. Of course, the person who's gathered this album more column inches than anyone else is Sasha Grey Google her, assuming there's no one else about who, despite being listed as a fully-fledged band member doesn't do much apart from the odd spoken word vocal.

Still, it's certainly interesting to see someone in her line of work teamed up with the devoutly Christian David Tibet, and I'm sure the story of how they became acquainted is a fascinating one.
